Chocolate Diet
The Chocolate Diet probably qualifies as the tastiest of the fad diets. Since chocolate is used as a replacement for vitamins, it does provide certain amount of health benefits such as controlling hypertension and heart problems. The Chocolate Diet mainly consists of liquids and the dieters are given a powder or supplement that has to be added to water or milk. They may also have to use the pills given. Recent studies have indicated that chocolate also contains anti-oxidants that help in preventing arteries from getting clogged.
Chocolate stimulates the brain to release endorphins, that are natural pleasure chemicals and phenylethylamine, a compound in chocolate, regarded as one that generates the reaction of falling in love. Chocolate contains a considerable amount of magnesium and iron. One and a half ounce of chocolate contains nearly identical amount of anti-oxidant phenolic compounds like a glass of red wine. The fat in cocoa, the primary source of chocolate, is stearic acid, which is a saturated fat found in a bar of chocolate. Thus, chocolate can benefit the dieters.
The powder shakes cannot replace meals. They can be used as healthy snacks. The pills are supposed to result in nutritional benefits such as an enhancement in body metabolism. These snacks, in addition to a healthy diet, are expected to stimulate the fat burning process and lead to weight loss. However, the usefulness of Chocolate Diet is still vague and it is not clear if it would help the dieter achieve the expected results. While there are some definite benefits with Chocolate Diets, it is not known if it can stimulate metabolism. In spite the benefits with chocolate, a diet with chocolate as mainstay may not be the best way to shed weight.
Research shows that dark chocolate, rich in anti-oxidants, is likely to lower LDL, the bad cholesterol. Chocolate also has mood elevating properties and is capable of acting as an anti-depressant. The Chocolate Diet recommends 2 ounces of dark chocolate, amounting to 100 calories. This by itself may not form sustainable diet. But, chocolate as part of a diet makes the diet tasty. In the short term, reduction in calorie intake is going to lead to weight loss, which is what is happening with Chocolate Diet.
