South Beach Diet
The South Beach Diet was created by Dr. Arthur Agatston in the mid-1990s. Though popular as a low carb diet, instead of focusing just on low carbs and low fats, the South Beach Diet is promoted as the 'right carbs and right fats'. The fundamental idea behind low carb diet, including South Beach Diet, is that if the body falls short of the primary source of energy carbohydrates, it will then burn fat, using it as the source of energy. The "right carbs" that can be consumed are complex in nature rather than simple.
It is a trendy and a somewhat sensible weight loss program for many of the dieters. In fact, even some schools have adopted this program to deal with obesity among young children. The key aspects of this program are that most of the carbohydrates are banned. Low GI carbs are reintroduced. The program also introduces a wide variety of foods with the aim of keeping the dieter's weight steady for lifetime.
In South Beach Diet, limits are not imposed on portions the dieter can eat sufficient to quench his appetite and is encouraged to eat three meals and snacks every day. It is a good method which recommends the consumption of fewer foods full of saturates and replacing some of them with heart friendly monosaturates. Once the dieter moves past the beginning phase, there are not many dietary restrictions as in some other plans.
The South Beach Diet program has many recipes more than 900, broken into 3 phases. The severe restriction on carbohydrates during the first two weeks needs quite a lot of willpower and may leave the dieter feeling very weak. The dieter can move to Phase II after two weeks. Many dieters get the impression that the purpose of the first phase is rapid weight loss. Phase I is developed as a stage to eliminate cravings and actual weight loss occurs in Phase II and Phase III.
When the dieter cuts out on sugar and high-glycemic carbohydrates, he'll notice that he has more energy all through the day. If it is combined with exercise, the results would be tremendous.
