This diet is turning television actress Suzanne Sommers into a diet expert. She has already brought out eight cookbooks. She is also producing these recipes into clips at the rate of one per year. Her works include 'Eat Great, Lose Weight', 'Get Skinny on Fabulous Food', a diet dessert book with the title 'Fast & Easy' followed by 'Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away' and 'Slim and Sexy Forever: The Hormone Solution for Permanent Weight Loss and Optimal Living'. The message Suzanne Sommers gives through these books is that sugar is bad and eating fat, including saturated at, can help in weight reduction.
The basic principle of Suzanne Sommers Diet is that sugar is the enemy and fat is good. This program encourages dieters to consume high-protein, low-carbohydrate regimen that is very close to that outlined by Atkins plan, but there are a few unusual differences. It appears as if Suzanne Sommers has decided to combine foods in such a manner that helps digestion and weight control. Her program recommends that fruits have to be consumed on an empty stomach. Protein and the permitted carbohydrates should not be eaten simultaneously.
Suzanne Sommers Diet has two levels. Level One is the diet phase of the plan. In this phase, carbohydrates are severely limited. Level Two is the weight-maintenance phase. Carbohydrate consumption is still limited, but not so rigidly. The dieter has to eat a minimum of three meals per day and has to stay with the seven rules: Avoid smelly foods such as sugars, carrot and white bread, eat carbohydrates separately from proteins and fats, eat vegetables and proteins together, eat vegetables and carbohydrates together, eat fruit separately on an empty stomach, leave a gap of three hours between meals if switching from a protein/fat meal to carbohydrate meal and do not skip meals.
Under the Suzanne Sommers program, the dieter can eat cream, butter, bacon, sea food and steak. Many of the foods that contain fats also contain proteins. Most fruits with the exception of bananas and pumpkin are acceptable as long as they are eaten in the recommended manner. Vegetables such as potatoes, winter squash, sweet potatoes and parsnips have to be avoided. Other vegetables can be consumed in the recommended manner. Soy, avocados, olives and nuts are considered detrimental at Level One but they are added during the maintenance phase. The Suzanne Sommers program is all about eating right foods and food combinations.
